Marriage Certificate Apostille
A marriage certificate apostille can only be processed in the state where it was issued. So, if you were married in Nevada, then your marriage certificate can only receive the Nevada apostille. Or, if you were married in California, your marriage certificate can only receive an apostille from California. An original or a certified copy is required to apply for an apostille. Most states require for all vital records, including marriage certificates, to be issued after 2000. If your marriage certificate was issued before 2000, you will need to request a new certified copy either through the Department of Vital Records in the state where the document was issued or via VitalChek.com.
An apostille on marriage certificate can only be issued for use in the countries-members of the Hague Apostille Convention. If your marriage certificate is requested by a non-member country of the Hague Apostille Treaty, you will need to request a marriage certificate legalization - a special authentication through the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C., and legalization through the Embassy / Consulate office.
