Missouri Apostille FAQ

What is an apostille?

Apostilles verify official seals and signatures on documents produced by federal agencies or verified by American or foreign consuls, including high school diplomas, FBI reports, marriage certificates, and other official documents. The document(s) are certified by an apostille in order for them to be recognized in other countries that are members of the 1961 Hague Convention Treaty. Only documents issued by the federal government are apostilled by us for use outside of nations that have ratified the 1961 Hague Convention.

How to apostille documents in Missouri?

The Secretary of State of Missouri will only issue an Apostille strictly for use in countries that are members of the Hague Convention. All documents issued for Non-Hague Participating Countries need to be certified, not apostilled.

Within the United States or any of its territories or possessions, apostille services are not required. The Secretary of State of Missouri will not issue an Apostille for use in American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Missouri Secretary of State charges $10 per document. A document may contain several pages.

Apostille service processing time is from 2 business days. However, the process may be delayed due to unforeseen inaccuracies. We have processed thousands of documents for over 20 years. Our experienced team knows how to make it fast and easy for you.

What documents CANNOT be apostilled?

  • You cannot get an apostille for documents signed by an out-of-state notary.
  • You cannot request an apostille for documents issued by the federal government. These documents must be submitted to the U.S. State Department.
  • Out-of-state vital records or court documents need to be submitted to the issuing state only.
  • Out-of-state school transcripts and academic records need to be apostilled by the state in which the school is located.

Do I need to obtain an Embassy Legalization for a document issued in Missouri?

All countries that are not members of the Hague Convention may require a regular certification for all documents issued in the state of Missouri. Additionally, these documents need to be authenticated by the U.S. Department of State and legalized by the embassy of the destination foreign country.

Should I translate and notarize documents before applying for an apostille?

You should translate your documents if it is required by the destination foreign country. Notarization is mandatory for the required documents. We recommend that you contact us for more information. We will help you to avoid any mistakes and save your time.
